InsideOut - Play with Digestive Tract Images
Exertion Games Lab, RMIT

Developed as part of a capstone project at the Exertion Games Lab, we explored the opportunity to facilitate playful experiences via a capsule endoscope device. A capsule endoscope is a pill-like device used to digitally record visual internal images of a patient’s gastrointestinal tract, with existing research mainly focusing on the capsule endoscope’s functional perspective.
Introducing a playful feedback system and game, called InsideOut, players wore an iPad which displayed images of their gastrointestinal tract captured by capsule endoscopy.
Through the design and development of both the harness and interface with the Exertion Games Lab, involving the integration of Endoscopy Pill and creation of procedural imaged based graphics, we were able to study playful interactions with the pill image, as players can perform bodily movements to add a variety of visual effects to the images.
